How do the rail passes work
New Zealand's breathtaking scenery is best experienced at your own pace. That's why our rail passes offer great flexibility for your month-long adventure. Purchase a set number of travel days to use on any of New Zealand's iconic train journeys. This single pass lets you hop on and off at various destinations, or train journeys creating a personalised itinerary that suits your interests.
The passes are valid for between one or two months from the date of your first journey and also covers any ferry crossings that you take.
After you’ve purchased your pass, reservations for train & ferry services are compulsory and should be made as soon as possible to avoid disappointment and no later than 72 Hours prior to the travel date to secure you a seat. Reservations are subject to availability and can be made by contacting our New Zealand Travel Team.
