Getting to Milford Sound
You can travel by bus from Queenstown (approximately 6 hours) or book one of the many full-day tour options that include a Milford Sound cruise. If you want to break up the bus travel time, consider staying in Te Anau for a couple of nights. The trip into Milford Sound is only around 3 hours from there, and you could spend a second day exploring Doubtful Sound and the Glowworm Caves across gorgeous Lake Te Anau. Te Anau is also the starting point for the Department of Conservation's Great Walks, including the Kepler and Milford Tracks.
For a unique perspective, scenic flights connect Queenstown and Milford Sound with daily departures (weather permitting). You can choose to fly both ways or travel by road in one direction and fly back to make the most of the spectacular scenery.
